Object locating: have you done it?

What I’m interested in is systems which actually let you track stuff *around* a space – so rather less “scan this object” from close quarters and more “what objects are in this space and where are they?”

I’m not 100% sure this can actually be done, although the Ekahau service seems to be along the right lines…
