Yeah, this is the chief thing for me, particularly as far as news is concerned. It’s not like we’re struggling for sources. I’m also not a huge Times fan anyway – yesterday I was trying to work out whether I’d pay if this was the Guardian instead, and I’m still not sure I would. If it was a scenario in which there was *no* news at all available elsewhere, then yeah..

I also think this is about thinking intelligently about what online brings vs what offline brings. IMO, the Guardian do this really well – a stonking (paid-for) iPhone app and website, open data stuff, blogs – and really strong connections between the online and offline versions. This seems to me a much better way of pushing the capability of online beyond what the Times seems to see as “reading the paper on a screen”…
